Eurozone countries keen to fight for British tourists
The message at this month’s WTM was clear, Eurozone countries are prepared to do whatever it takes to continue to attract Brits to their traditional holiday destinations.
Amid fears that the strength of the euro against the pound and high public sector job losses may deter many UK travellers from visiting the continent, representatives from Eurozone countries seemed resolute at World Travel Market this week.
Speaking to the press at the event, president of Tourism Portugal’s subsidiary the Algarve Tourist Board Nuno Aires acknowledged the challenges that lie ahead:
“The UK market is changing so fast, and we understand the economic problems in the country. The weak pound will certainly have some effect on the number of Britons going to the Algarve going forward.”
Aires then went on to say that value for money would play a key part in the region’s ability to continue to attract Brits and laid down his commitment to meeting that need.
